  • I am Channel 9's Chief Meteorologist. Growing up in rural Oklahoma, I formed a special passion for weather and have spent my life pursuing all types of weather from tornadoes to hurricanes. All of my training and experience were used during the devastating hurricane season of 2004. Hurricane Charley brought Central Florida its first hurricane in over 40 years, and was the most intense land falling tropical system I had ever covered. But it didn't stop there as Central Florida would be hit by two more hurricanes "Frances" and "Jeanne." They just wouldn't let up on us. When I'm not working in Severe Weather Center 9, I enjoy spending time at home with my wife Selina and children Ryan and Kaitlyn. I also like to work on my Mustang and collect old horror movies. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Meteorology and I hold the "Seal of Approval" from the American Meteorological Society.

  • Certified meteorologist Kassandra Crimi returned to Channel 9 Eyewitness News in January 2019. She previously worked at Channel 9 in Severe Weather Center 9 from 2011 to 2013. I’m a Minnesota native, which means I am very familiar with... the COLD (also, snow shovels, ice scrapers and ice-fishing... YES, ice-fishing, just like in the movie "Grumpy Old Men"). Growing up, I was a science and math junky, and I knew that I would someday work in the science field. It wasn't until I attended Florida Institute of Technology, in Melbourne, FL, and experienced the 2004 hurricane season that I realized I wanted to extend my studies into Meteorology. I graduated with Cum Laude honors from Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. While attending Florida Tech, I was a member and captain of their NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball team. GO PANTHERS! I also served an internship right here at WFTV in Severe Weather Center 9. Now, my internship wasn’t the last time I stepped foot in this building. My face may look familiar as I worked alongside Tom Terry and Brian Shields here at WFTV from 2011-2013. January of 2014 took me, and my now husband, clear across the country to Albuquerque, NM. A place I like to call, “The Land of No Humidity.” While I was in New Mexico, a lot changed. I found a love for carne adovada and tamales. I also got married, got a dog, and had a baby. NOW, we’re back, and I couldn’t be happier to call Central Florida...

  • Weather has always been a passion. I first started giving the forecast with a chalkboard when I was 5. Now, you can catch me each weekday on Eyewitness News Daybreak and again at noon. I graduated from Villanova University with a degree in Geography. I teamed up with my professor and published two studies on hurricanes and their impact on increased precipitation in the Eastern United States. I went on to obtain a degree in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. I also hold a certificate in Emergency Management from Florida State University. My career started at the ABC affiliate in Salisbury, Maryland. Next, I was able to enjoy the mountains at the ABC affiliate in Charleston, West Virginia. I am a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM Seal Holder) through the American Meteorological Society and also have my National Weather Association Seal of Approval for weathercasting. I’m a former board member at the Orlando Science Center and continue to partner with them on special projects. I’m a big fan of the New York Yankees. And when the college basketball season rolls around, I am glued to the TV to see my Villanova Wildcats! My wife, our three sons (the future frontcourt of the Orlando Magic), and I live in Orlando. We spend our free time eating too much pizza. If you have any suggestions where to find the best pizza, let me know!

  • From winter storms to Winter Park, I grew up in Wisconsin but recently moved to Orlando for the wonderful winter weather! Don’t get me wrong, I love all exciting weather. I forecasted thunderstorms, snowstorms, ice storms and heat waves in the Central Plains for seven years. From Sioux City, Iowa; Tulsa & Kansas City, these gigs in tornado alley will serve as good experience tracking the many Florida thunderstorms. But I didn’t start out as a meteorologist, I started as a farmer. I grew up on a family dairy farm. My 10 brothers and sisters and I milked cows all winter long, even as temperatures dropped below zero and snowstorms dropped multiple feet of snow. My first job out of college was not in meteorology, either. It was engineering. Geotechnical engineering. I worked at a firm that designed foundations for New York City skyscrapers. One project sent me trekking deep below the streets of Manhattan to monitor the construction vibrations on the Subway tracks. Another had me approving pits for the construction of the foundation for a 44-story building. It was a fascinating job, but somewhere in my second year, I received an offer to attend UCLA’s grad school. This is where I entered the weather workforce. It was the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department at UCLA. I worked as a graduate student researcher studying two major storms: Hurricane Andrew and the 1993 Storm of the Century. My job was to manipulate the computer models to see how likely it w...
